Support Children in Foster Care

Subject: Partnering with Virginia Church of God Congregations to Support Children in Foster Care

Dear Virginia Church of God Family,

My name is Kasey McDonnell, and I serve as a Foster Family Liaison with Intercept Health Treatment Foster Care.

In this role, I have the privilege of connecting churches and community partners with meaningful opportunities to support children and families impacted by foster care. I am reaching out to invite your church to partner with us in making a difference in the lives of children and families throughout Virginia.

As a member of Five Stone Church in Powhatan, Virginia, led by Pastor Jeff Lambert, I have personally witnessed the impact a church can make when it comes alongside children and families in need. Seeing the difference our congregation has been able to make has inspired me to help expand these opportunities throughout Virginia and connect more churches with ways to serve their communities.

There is an ongoing need for safe, supportive foster homes, but the impact of the Church can extend far beyond becoming a foster family. Every congregation has the opportunity to make a difference by offering encouragement, meeting practical needs, and surrounding foster families with a supportive community.

There are several ways your church could partner with us, including:

Raising Awareness: Allowing me the opportunity to speak during a church service or ministry gathering to share about the current foster care crisis, the needs of children in care, and ways your congregation can get involved.

Hosting Donation Drives: Collecting essential items such as pajamas, clothing, hygiene products, duffle bags, and other resources for children entering foster care.

Organizing Meal Trains: Providing meals for foster families during placements, transitions, or particularly demanding seasons.

Supporting Current Foster Families: Offering practical assistance, encouragement, respite resources when appropriate, childcare support, or other acts of service that help foster families feel supported throughout their journey.

Connecting and Mobilizing Congregations: Sharing foster care information, distributing awareness materials, and helping church members discover opportunities to serve children and families in their own communities.

My hope is to build meaningful relationships with churches across the Virginia Church of God network and help each congregation identify opportunities that align with its gifts, resources, and ministry goals.

Whether your church is interested in hosting a donation drive, supporting an existing foster family, or simply learning more about the needs in your community, I would love to help you take that first step.

As Christians, we are called to care for the vulnerable, love our neighbors, and be the hands and feet of Jesus. Together, we have an opportunity to put that calling into action by ensuring children and families impacted by foster care know they are not alone.

I would welcome the opportunity to connect with you, share more about the needs we are seeing and explore what a partnership with your church could look like. Thank you for your time, your heart for serving others, and the work you already do to strengthen families and communities throughout Virginia.

Thank you,

Kasey McDonnell
