Pastor Appreciation Month in April!
Greetings from the Church of God State Office in Roanoke!
For many churches, the month of April has been designated as Pastor Appreciation Month. This is a time set aside to show our love and gratitude for the Pastors who lead our churches. While we should express our thankfulness often, this month is a wonderful time to make sure they know they are loved!
I have said for years that ministry is harder now than ever before. In a culture that is in opposition to Christianity and Biblical truth, Pastors are facing unprecedented challenges. While those who are called by God do not wish to be perceived as complaining or grumbling, there are times when we get weary. The spiritual warfare is intense. Our Pastors need to know that their work is having an impact and making a difference in eternity.
We suggest some special recognition for Pastors this month. Feel free to assemble a small team to help with the coordination of events. Perhaps a special service with a guest speaker would be appropriate. A fellowship meal or picnic for the entire church is a great way to celebrate. Giving the Pastor’s family a gift certificate for a favorite restaurant or a weekend at a resort is a great way to let them know how much they are appreciated. Many churches will also include a financial gift or love offering in the amount of a week’s or a month’s salary. Whatever way you choose to celebrate, we know it will be heartfelt and sincere.
Most of all, please pray for your Pastor this month. One church we know of came up with a great idea: they designated a different person to pray for their Pastor each day for an entire month, ensuring they felt covered in prayer every single day.
Here are two key Bible verses that may assist:
1 Timothy 5:17-18 “Elders who rule well, particularly those who preach and teach, deserve ‘double honor’" (respect and financial support). Paul quotes Deuteronomy 25:4 and Luke 10:7 ("the laborer is worthy of his wages") to support this responsibility.
1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 “Respect those who labor among you, are over you in the Lord, and admonish you. Esteem them highly in love because of their work.”
Thank you for loving your Pastor! If there are additional ways that we may serve, please let us know.
In Christ’s service,
