Bob and Genie Brooks Ministering in Poland
Virginia Church of God Family,
We are Bob and Genie Brooks. We have been married for thirty-seven years and have five grown children living across the globe. We served as ministers in Virginia for twenty-five years. Bob was saved and set forth from the Bluefield Church of God. We pastored churches in Mathews, Gloucester, and Middlesex, Virginia, and we now serve at the Powidz Christian Center in Poland.
Our outreach is to the Polish people and to individuals from more than thirty-five different countries who come to Poland for work. Our primary focus, however, is on U.S. soldiers who are remotely deployed for nine months and live on a Polish base known as the FOS (Forward Operating Site). This is an unaccompanied deployment, and soldiers live in fifteen-man tents, with showers and bathrooms located down the road in a larger tent. There is a high rate of depression, anxiety, and infidelity. One Church of God chaplain told us this assignment is known as a “marriage buster,” with eight out of ten marriages ending in divorce. Last October, there were two suicides.
We have the privilege of representing the Church of God and, most importantly, Jesus Christ in a country that is 99.97% Catholic. We are the first registered English-speaking Church of God in Poland and the only English service within a seventy-mile radius. Chapel services with an available chaplain are held on base.
We serve as a home away from home for these warriors. A home-cooked meal, a place to belong, transportation, Wi-Fi to call families, counseling, study of the Word, and encouragement are just a few of the reasons we are here.
