Ministry on the Margins at Richlands COG
I have been pastor of the Richlands Church of God for over 24 years. During those 24 years, we have reached out into our community in a lot of different ways. Most of that outreach goes unnoticed or unacknowledged, even by the church members, because everything we do is to shine the light of Jesus and not for self-glory.
We have given school supplies in the beginning of the school year to students that were from families of low income. Our youth raised money for St. Jude. We have raised money through fundraisers for several local residents that were diagnosed with cancer. Our ladies have baked cookies for the local police force to show our appreciation for their service. Our ladies have made and given gift baskets to our local school office staff to recognize our appreciation for their work.
For over five years, our Ladies group has hosted a Woman's Conference. This past year our ladies group joined together with another denomination to hold the Woman's Conference. It has always been a success, with a full house of excited ladies.
One of our greatest outreach projects is held in the month of December. Instead of holding a Ladies Banquet, our ladies decided to hold a Christmas party for the “Clubhouse,” a local group of disabled men and women. Upward of 30 people attended the Christmas party and were given gifts, they played games, enjoyed pizza, and had great fellowship. Our ladies have decided to have the party again this coming December.
In the 20+ years I have been here, we have seen God provide finances to do great work. God always makes a way and meets our needs.
One of my favorite scriptures is found in Psalms 37:5 “Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.” When we walk in His will (way) He will take care of the rest.
