Statement on Violence in Texas and Ohio

The Virginia Church of God State Office joins with the Church of God International Offices in expressing heartfelt sorrow for those that have been impacted by this past weekend’s mass shootings in El Paso, TX and Dayton, OH. All human life is valuable and should be regarded as important. The loss of human life is always a tragic occasion, but the actions undertaken this past weekend in our nation are a chilling reminder that life is also extremely fragile. Our prayers are with all individuals who have been impacted by the violent outbursts in Texas and Ohio on August 2 and 3. The injured, family members of the deceased, first responders and governmental leaders are lifted up in our prayer.

Below is the text of a press release issued by Dr. Timothy M. Hill, General Overseer of the Church of God:

“My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those killed and injured in the recent mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio. Literally dozens of families have been devastated by these horrific acts of violence across the heartland of our country.

I pray for comfort for those who have lost loved ones and for healing for those who were injured in these tragic incidents. In addition, I call upon our global church family to pray for healing in our lands. The Scriptures clearly tells us that if we will turn from our wicked ways and call upon God, He will bring a healing to our land.

With more than 20 mass shootings in the last seven months in this country, there is no doubt that a healing needs to occur in America. May we seek such a healing today.”
