Obituary for Rev. Gregory Denton Carter

ROCKY MOUNT – Rev. Gregory Denton Carter, age 62, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2017. Born in Montgomery County, VA on January 19, 1955, he was the son of Denton D. Carter and Leona Grimes Carter. He was preceded by his father, Denton Carter.

Rev. Carter graduated from Lee University in Cleveland, TN with a BS in Christian Education. While attending college, he was an avid runner in which he ran Men’s Cross Country Track for the Lee University Flames. Following graduation, he became an Ordained Minister and received his License of Ministry with the Church of God, Cleveland, TN. After spreading the Lord’s message in other states, Rev. Carter and his wife settled in Rocky Mount and became an associate Pastor for The South Rocky Mount Church of God, now Ridgecrest Worship Center. He had a passion for always helping others during their most difficult times, which later he would lead the Pastoral Care at Ridgecrest, a calling to minister for many years. He loved the Lord and he especially loved spreading His message. Gregory had a servant’s heart and a love for family. He always enjoyed spending time with his wife, son, family and friends. A loving husband, caring father and a dear friend to many, Rev. Carter will be forever missed, but never forgotten.

Rev. Carter leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Mary Beck Carter of Rocky Mount; and his son, Benjamin Denton Carter and Heather Beasley of Wendell. He is also survived by his mother, Leona Grimes Carter; sister and brother-in-law, Janie and Cecil Hawks; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Vanessa Carter, Rev. Milton and Violet Carter, and Stanley and Kathy Carter; and several nieces and nephews.
