Recent flooding over the last few days has left some churches in Mississippi and Louisiana completely devastated or destroyed. Widespread flooding in the two states has damaged thousands of homes and the risk of rising waters prompted evacuations over the weekend. At least four deaths had been reported from flooding that began last week and flood warnings remained in effect as many rivers and streams remained high. Many roads and bridges have been damaged or destroyed. Over the next few days the leaders are assessing damage to churches, parsonages, and members’ homes.
I have personally been contacted by Administrative Bishop Chris Moody of Mississippi and he has shared their desperate need for assistance at this time.
In an effort to assist these churches and their congregations that have been drastically affected, we are reaching out to our local churches here in Virginia. For those who would like to receive an offering specifically designated to assist these churches, you may send those funds to the State Office in Virginia and we will forward 100% to the State Office in Mississippi in care of Bishop Chris Moody. Mark your check "Flooding Assistance".
For giving immediate donations, you may use our secure "Donations" link on our website: www.vacog.org/giving.
Thank you in advance for anything you can do. I appreciate our churches for your extreme compassion that Virginia always conveys to our fellow churches in times like these.
